WHICH HOT WATER SYSTEM IS FOR YOU?

We have a number of hot water systems that suit individual needs. Here we'll provide an overview of each to help you decide which kit is for you.

Full specifications and instructions for each product are available on the product pages in the shop.

The Electric

The electric does what it says on the tin! It heats your water via an electric element in the tank.

The element can be 12V, 230V or dual voltage (12V and 230V). This is a complete plug and play setup and is the most straightforward option. The tank comes in 3 sizes; 6L, 10L and 15L, and they all come with a Bobil Simple controller that lets you know water temperature and can read your battery power.

The 12V element means that you can heat your water without AC, so it will heat when you're driving, and when you have enough excess battery power (e.g. with solar - FREE HOT WATER!). This is where the Bobil controller comes into it's 'element'! It can read your battery power and you can program when to send power to the water heater, and when to cut off so that it doesn't leave you without power. The 230V element then works either via inverter or when you're plugged in to hookup. â€‹â€‹

PROs -

  • Perfect for both on and off-grid water heating, especially with large solar arrays in summer.

  • 'Plug and play' easy install.

  • Fully programmable integration with the Bobil simple controller to monitor and use any incoming battery power.

The Air Hybrid

This is our most popular product and is the ultimate off-grid hot water system.

The Bobil Air Hybrid uses the same tank as above (12V, 230V or both) so can heat your water electrically, but then it also connects to a diesel air heater and can heat the water using that. It works by pumping water through a heat exchanger that attaches to your diesel heater.

This kit works with nearly any diesel/LPG hot air heater, Webasto, Eberspacher, Chinese or Autoterm. But if you haven't already got a diesel heater for your van then we sell a FULL package which includes an Autoterm diesel heater here.

This comes with our Bobil Smart controller which, like the electric, can control the element based on programmable settings (using your solar power etc), and you can also use it to turn on your heating and/or hot water. There is a diverter in place that diverts the hot air outside your van when you are using the diesel heater to heat your water, so your van won't heat up in the summer months. The Smart controller also moves this diverter automatically. Additionally, the controller can show your water tank level if paired with our level sensors.

PROs -

  • Ideal if you have an existing air heater, or are looking to purchase one.

  • Also contains electric elements for heating when power is available.

  • Flexible positioning to fit in with any van layout.

  • Easy to control with the Bobil Smart Controller.

The Calorifier

Our new custom made Bobil Calorifier allows you to heat water in your campervan or boat from your engine, via a coolant coil, and from the in built 12V and 230V elements, perfect for all eventualities.

The calorifier comes in the larger tank sizes of 15L and 25L, and are the same design as our ever-popular Bobil Electric hot water tank, but with the added benifit of having a coolant coil included, allowing you to use your engine to heat the hot water. It comes with our Bobil Simple Controller, which gives you control over the electric elements in the tank.

It can be paired with our calorifier connection kit which contains all the pipework and clips to connect the calorifier to the engine circuit loop. Unlike the Hybrid, you would need a separate air heater to keep your van toasty.

PROs -

  • Heats the water using waste engine heat from the coolant pipes.

  • Larger size tanks available.

  • Designed for the touring campers!

  • Fully programmable integration with the Bobil simple controller to monitor and use any incoming battery power.

The Bobil Hydronic

Our most powerful heating system and the ABSOLUTE all-in-one hot water/air kit. This features our largest calorifier tanks, the Autoterm Flow 5 Hydronic Diesel Heater and a 6L coolant tank.

Slide1_edited.jpg

This works by the flow heater heating the coolant and then it being passed into the calorifier. The coolant then passes round the coils within the tank and heats the water. This hot water is then pumped through a heat exchanger and blower box that means you can use the hot water to create hot air! So it works in reverse to the Air Hybrid, which uses hot air to create hot water. The calorifier than also has the dual electric element so you can use 12V and 230V to heat the water, and works in conjunction with our Smart controller so that you set your parameters to heat the water electrically without draining your battery, and utilise any free solar power you may be getting. You can then also purchase additional blower boxes if you would like hot air in another area of your van.

PROs -

  • Our most powerful and quickest hot water system - heating times are half that of the hybrid when using diesel.

  • Perfect for high hot water demands.

  • Scalable for large vehicles where distributed heating is required.

  • Space saving - the heater is fitted underneath the van, and everything else can be mounted off the floor.

  • Underfloor heating can easily be added.

  • Easy to control with the Bobil Smart Controller.
